How to Care for Your Kenny&Mason Tapware
At Kenny&Mason, we believe that exceptional craftsmanship deserves exceptional care.
Each of our taps and accessories are crafted from solid brass, hand-polished, and finished with the utmost attention to detail, resulting in timeless pieces that bring both elegance and function into your home.
Whether you’ve chosen a gleaming chrome basin mixer, a warm brushed nickel kitchen tap, or a rich old brass bath filler, your investment in quality deserves to be protected.
While our finishes are designed to stand the test of time, they are still refined surfaces that benefit from regular and mindful maintenance.
Like fine jewellery or heirloom furniture, proper care enhances their longevity and preserves the unique character that makes Kenny&Mason fittings so special.
General Care
Keeping your Kenny&Mason tapware in top condition requires only a few simple steps.
After each use, gently dry your fittings with a soft cloth to avoid water spots and mineral build-up.
Regular cleaning with warm water or a mild, pH-neutral soaps helps maintain the finish, followed by a polish using a microfiber cloth. These cloths are perfect for cleaning without scratching and need only to be slightly damp to be effective.
Avoid using abrasive materials like scouring pads, steel wool, or rough sponges, as these can wear down the surface. Also, steer clear of strong cleaning agents that contain acids, bleach, citrus, or alcohol, they can harm even the toughest finishes.
With regular, gentle care, your Kenny&Mason tapware will stay just as impressive as the day it was installed;
Chrome
Chrome is one of the most durable and popular finishes for tapware, thanks to its shiny, mirror-like appearance and resistance to everyday wear.
It cleans up easily, just use warm water or a mild soap solution and wipe dry with a soft cloth to keep it sparkling.
While chrome is tough, it’s best to avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that can dull its shine or cause damage over time.
With simple, regular care, your chrome taps will stay bright and beautiful for years to come.
Nickel and Brushed Nickel Finishes
Nickel and brushed nickel are known as living finishes, which means they develop a natural patina over time that gives them a warm, classic character.
To keep them looking their best, it’s important to dry the surface after every use with a soft cloth, as water spots and mineral deposits can appear if moisture is left to dry on its own.
Regular cleaning with warm water or a mild pH-neutral soap will help maintain the finish without interfering with the patina.
Occasionally, you can gently polish the surface with a soft cloth and a polish product to restore some of its original sheen, just like you do with silverwear. These finishes require a little more care than chrome, but their evolving beauty is well worth the effort.
Polished brass, brushed brass and old brass
These finishes are uncoated, meaning they naturally oxidize over time and develop a rich patina that tells their own story. No two pieces age the same, and that’s part of their charm.
To maintain them, clean regularly with warm water and a mild soap, then dry with a soft cloth. This gentle routine won’t stop the ageing process but will keep the surface clean and cared for. If you prefer to preserve the original shine a little longer, a light wax polish (like beeswax) can help slow down oxidation and add a protective layer.
Brass may develop a greenish layer called verdigris over time, especially in damp environments, this is a natural reaction and can be gently brushed off with a soft toothbrush if caught early. Avoid using anti-limescale or acidic cleaners, as these can damage the finish and alter the character of the brass.
Whether you love the evolving tones or prefer to maintain a brighter look, brass is a timeless choice that only gets more beautiful with age.
